There is long time that I didn’t published anything new on my blog.
The summer season is suitable to be more productive so I got some news.
The main thing is the birth of a trac instance dedicated to my ‘open source’ works.
Most of them are just ideas or proof of concept but they are usable.
I invite you to browse my Wiki.

For the 2007 edition of the Valtech Days I’ll do with Jacques Couvreur an refactored version of the speech we did for the french XP Days.

This presentation about Pair Programming will try to show the differences between “2 people in front of a PC” and the real pair programming.

Side of selenium core project, I discovered selenium remonte control, aka selenium-rc. This is a test tool which allows you to test your web site into several browser. The most interesting is that you’ll be able to write your test suites in any language you want (at least, for the moment in Java, .NET, Perl, Python and Ruby).
How does it work ? 3 components are involved in testing with selenium-rc:

  • – Web browsers in which your web pages will be displayed throught selenium-core library
  • – The Selenium server will communicate with your browsers to simulate user actions
  • – Test scripts will send commands to the selenium server and retreive results. Thoses results will be asserted. The protocol of communication is an HTTP based protocol.

Even if its seem really good, this tool lacks a very important thing : an erlang binding!!!. After a quick look at the protocol, I think that it would be very easy to implement an erlang version of the library.

The second edition of the French XPDay took place in Paris on the 2nd and 3rd of lat may. For this second edition we – some friends, each of them members of my first XP team, and me – did several presentations.

Once again I ran several sessions with some friends from my first XP team.

The first one with Dominic Williams and Virgile Delecolle was about
multiple client issues. This workshop was a planning game simulation where 8 ‘clients’ tried to define, with the help of a coach, all stories needed to start a project. To be close to the real world, the project was a
remote pair programming tool.

The second day of the conference started with a presentation about pair
programming by Jacques Couvreur and myself. Nothing to say about this
expect that you can download slides here: Pair Programming XPDay 2007 (132).

And, our last session with Dominic again was a presentation of TDD step by
step using Erlang (and ExtremeForge of course).
